† Adult Sunday School: A ministry
in which team members teacher classes which are designed for
adults and take place during the hour between services,
after services on Sunday afternoon and on Wednesday
evenings. Teachers may use formatted curriculum or design
their own pending approval of the Rector. (See
C.L.A.S.S.-- Christian Life and Service Seminars for related
material)

Altar Guild: A ministry in which
team members, both adult and youth, are responsible for
preparing for all worship services. They are responsible for
ordering materials for use in the Eucharist, ordering
flowers for the sanctuary, preparing the altar, preparing
and maintaining vestments & vessels and arranging the
elements for Holy Communion Services.
† Audio Visual:
A ministry in which team members, both adult and youth,
become familiar with creating, managing and delivering
electronic (power point type) presentations. Working with
other ministries these presentations add depth to our
Christian education and worship services.

Bread Making: A ministry in which
team members trained to bake the bread for Holy Communion
services.

Buildings & Grounds: A ministry in
which team members devote their time to the care and
maintenance of church property, including the buildings,
garden areas and infrastructure such as signs, and outdoor
lighting etc.

Caribbean Fest: This is St John’s
premier outreach ministry to the community. A ministry in
which team members, once a year in October, provide a 3-day
weekend festival featuring Caribbean food music and dance.
There are booths available to rent for the selling of crafts
and there is something for everyone to enjoy. There are
rides for children and continuous entertainment beginning
with “Singspiration” a special program of music &
song which takes place on Friday evening to kickoff the
weekend. In the spring they have “Time For Tea”, an
evening of fellowship, entertainment and a wonderful fashion
show.

Chalice Bearer: A ministry in
which team members are trained to administer the cup during
communion, serves as an adult acolyte and who is usually
appointed to the read the psalm, epistle or prayers of the
people during services.

Children’s Church: A ministry in
which team members provide a program of teaching and
interactive worship service for elementary age children on
Sunday morning that occurs during the 10:30 service.

Christian Life and Service Seminars
(C.L.A.S.S.): The goal of these four classes is to
equip everyone at St. John’s so that we can live out our
calling and mission which is “to lead all people to become
mature, fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.”
Class
101 is designed to help members, both new and old,
discover what it means to be a member of St. John’s.
Class 201 is centered around prayer and spirituality.
Class 301 will deal with ministry and how each of
us has an active role in the church. Class 401 will
deal with evangelism and sharing our faith with those
outside of the church.

Church Publications: A ministry in
which team members publish and distribute information about
life at St. John’s. This includes publishing the Joy
Journal - St John’s monthly newsletter, communicating with
local newspapers, placing information cards in hotels and
motels and arranging for radio and television announcements
concerning upcoming events.

Counters: A ministry in which team
members (two person teams) are responsible for
tallying, recording, making deposits at the bank and
reporting to the treasurer all contributions received during
worship services and special events.

Daughters of The King: A ministry
in which team members who are women, have a ministry to
women and for women. They have the rule of life of Prayer,
Study and Service. They also pray for and support the Rector
in his ministry at St. John’s.

Eucharistic Visitor: A ministry in
which team members are trained to visit and administer Holy
Communion to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. This
ministry is under the heading of pastoral care.
†
Evangelism Team: A ministry in
which team members meet together for prayer, Bible study and
seek out the un-churched and introducing them first to Jesus
and then to the church.
†
Flower Guild: A ministry in
which team members meet weekly to prepare floral
arrangements for the Chapel and Main Sanctuary each Sunday
as well as special occasions.

Flower Ministry: A ministry in
which team members prepare flowers to be taken to the sick
and shut-ins in the community. Members of this team also
participate in the delivery of flower arrangements to the
sick and shut-ins. This ministry is a part of the pastoral
care team.

Greeters: A ministry in which team
members welcome everyone to the church with cheerful words
and a smile. Greeters are also the ones who have the
responsibility of both welcoming and identifying new people
and with introducing them to the clergy and others in the
church.

Hospitality Team: A ministry in which team
members are responsible for organizing and setting up for
special events, dinners and receptions. This includes
hosting Sunday morning coffee hour, dinners for the parish
and receptions for funerals and weddings if requested.

Kitchen Ministry: This ministry
works with the fellowship and hospitality ministries. A
ministry in which team members are responsible for making
sure that the kitchen is stocked and ready for upcoming
events.
†
Lay Reader: A ministry in which
members of the congregation come forward during our worship
services and read one of the assigned scriptures for the
day.
†
Nursery Volunteer: This ministry
works with a staff child care provider and consist of
people, both adults and teenagers, who are trained to care
for toddlers and infants so that others might attend worship
services and special events at the church.

Office Volunteers: A ministry in
which team members offer their time to assist in the church
office by answering phones, typing, doing computer work,
filing or assisting the staff wherever they can.

Outreach Team: A ministry in which
team members reach out and care for the community, going
beyond the normal boundaries of St. John’s. This includes
meeting the spiritual and physical needs of those around us.
Preparing and delivering food boxes to the poor,
participation in the coalition for the homeless. Serving at
“Daily bread” is also a part of outreach.

Pastoral Care: A ministry in which
team members are appointed to meet the spiritual needs of
others through prayer, counseling and encouragement. This
ministry is broad in scope and includes many other
ministries here at St John’s including: Lay Eucharistic
Ministers, Visitation of the Sick, Counseling, Evangelism,
Prayer and Spiritual Direction.

Praise Team: A ministry in which
team members desire to use their musical talents, vocal or
instrumental, on Sundays and other special occasions.
Members meet each Thursday night for prayer, Bible study and
to rehearse music for up coming services. This is the team
that leads the congregation in worship throughout the
service.

Prayer Angel Calling Ministry:
Prayer is the cornerstone of our life at Saint John’s. This
is a ministry in which team members minister by making
monthly phone calls to every member of our congregation.
Prayer Angel Calling Ministry provides a prayer ministry in
addition to, and in support of, our congregations' ministry
and staff.

Prayer Chain: A ministry in which
team members are called to be intercessors for others who
have prayer request. This ministry requires confidentiality
and availability. Those who are a part of this ministry must
be willing to receive and faithfully pass along calls for
prayer and to actively pray for requests whenever they are
notified of a need for prayer.

Small Groups (Home groups &
Ministry teams): This ministry involves hosting or
facilitating a group of individuals in structured Bible
study and Christian Fellowship. Materials to be used in
small group study are reviewed and authorized by our rector
before being distributed. Leaders of small groups, in a home
or as apart of a ministry, serve as pastors for members of
their group praying with them corporately and individually,
offering support and a caring church presence whenever
needed.

Sunday Morning Prayer Teams: A
ministry in which team members are trained and available to
pray with individuals during and immediately following
Sunday morning services. Team members are required to keep
all prayer requests confidential unless the person they are
praying with ask to be placed on the prayer list.

Tape (sound)
Ministry: A ministry in
which team members record all services for duplication and
distribution to those sick and unable to attend services and
the maintaining of a library of tapes which are cataloged
and available for lending or for sale to those who may be
away but desire not to miss a teaching or sermon.

Transportation Ministry: A
ministry in which team members pick up and drive others, who
have no transportation, to church services, doctor
appointments, grocery stores, shopping malls etc.

Ushering: A ministry in which team
members, along with the greeters meet the people as they
enter the church, assist them to their seats, provide them
with service bulletins, and attend to housekeeping functions
for the comfort of the congregation. Some of the functions
of an usher include collecting the offering, assisting with
counting the number present and locking up the church after
the service if there is no other service taking place.

Vision Team 2010: A ministry in
which team members plan for the future here at St John’s.
Members need to be able to look beyond the current situation
and think outside of the box.

Youth Ministry Design Team: A
ministry in which team members provide leadership to the
youth in the church and the community. Helping with the
teaching on Sundays or Wednesdays, serving on the youth
ministry design team, volunteering to be a youth advisor for
youth campouts or mission trips are just a few of the
possibilities.
