Walk in Jesus’ Footsteps in Capernaum
At Capernaum – known as Jesus’ “own town” (Matthew 9:1) – walking where Jesus walked takes on a thrilling new meaning. As you sit on the stone benches of Capernaum’s ancient synagogue, you’ll be reminded that right here, Jesus taught (Mark 1:21; John 6:59) and healed a man possessed by an evil spirit (Mark 1:23-27). It was the synagogue on this very spot, whose foundations you can still see, that Luke says was built by the centurion whose servant Jesus healed (Luke 7:1-10).
City of David Rich with History
The City of David is the birthplace of the city of Jerusalem, the place where King David established his kingdom, and where the history of the people of Israel was written. It is within walking distance from the Old City of Jerusalem and the Western Wall, and is one of the most exciting sites in Israel. Visitors come from all over the world to see the strongest physical connection between the stories of the Bible and modern times.

"I have talked to many people who have visited Israel. Each one told me that the trip changed their life: it changed the way they read their Bible, it changed their faith, and it changed their perspective. Their tour of Israel allowed the sights, sounds, and aromas of the Bible to come alive for them.
For me, I had the chance in June 1982. Every site I visited had a profound spiritual and historical significance, with many having biblical ties: Caesarea, Mount Carmel, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Mount of Olives, the Jordan River, the Garden of Gethsemane, and certainly the Garden Tomb. While each of these sites will forever be etched into my heart and mind, two locations in particular made a lasting impression on my life and my faith.
First, at the Sea of Galilee, we sailed on the water and surveyed the landscape where Jesus conducted the majority of His ministry, giving the places I often read and taught about a context and depth I hadn’t imagined before. Then, sitting in the stillness of the Garden of Gethsemane – while looking up to see Jerusalem and reflecting about Jesus’ time in the garden – stirred something in me that I cannot express with mere words.
Personally I was given a unique perspective that could only be experienced by standing in Israel. That perspective changed the way I read my Bible, and it changed the way I taught and share the Gospel. I entered the Holy Land as merely a ten-day tourist, but I left as a lifelong ambassador for Israel. Most of all, Israel had been simply a part of my job; now, Israel was a part of me!
